About The Role We have a range of systems including our web app, iOS and Android apps. We are constantly developing all of these to add new features, handle increasing scale, improve usability and support new platforms. You will be working closely within a squad of developers, product owners, UX designers and other testers to develop new features in line with a variety of product roadmaps, as well as liaising with our system administrators and customer experience team to investigate and resolve issues. You will act as UNiDAYS’ dedicated tester for a squad, focussed on their sprints and deliveries, seeking to launch regular high-quality software to serve our partners and members, then help to track that delivery in production to determine its success. Our stack is ever growing, but currently includes C# 4.6, ASP.NET, SQL Server, Postgres, Marten, Redis, most of the features of AWS, HTML5, CSS3, LESS, Javascript. About You Passion is the most important quality you can have. As long as you’ve got some real-world industry experience, we aren’t too fussy about what you know or don’t - so don’t be intimidated. We can and will teach someone who is willing to learn. A know-it-all really won’t fit in. Our squads are small so you need to be versatile and enjoy the variety of working on anything and everything that’s needed. You take pride in your work, and are driven to deliver great software. You push for positive change within yourself, your squad, your department and your business. We want to be challenged by you and to challenge you in order to improve us both. Everything is open for review and we take continuous improvement seriously. You have a good sense of humour and excellent communication skills. You have the ability to listen and take critical feedback as well as contribute to group discussions and can articulate your opinions concisely. It’s obvious to everyone around you that you have fun with your work and with your co-workers – because they are doing the same. You love to teach and learn from your co-workers and we love to teach you too. Tell us what you have been reading recently and what has been piquing your interest at the moment. Key Skills And Experience Broad understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, the browser ecosystem for desktops & mobiles, and the web in general. You’ve tested web applications, learned the differences between them and their stacks, applied your tools, your testing skills and your experience, and you’ve provided developers on projects with relevant, timely and useful information. You’re experienced at reporting progress directly to a Product Owner (or other project leader/facilitator), advocating for testing and describing risks in an accessible manner. You have experience being the primary tester of a project, managing priorities, flagging risks to products, perceptions, timescales and deliveries, and interfacing with the whole delivery team. You’re happy reading most code, and whilst you might not be a dev, you’re happy to apply your skills in a programming or scripting language. Of course if you also happen to know anything about i18n, API and UI automation, CI/CD, performance testing or a11y, we’re all the more chuffed. If not, don’t sweat it. About UNiDAYS Focused We take a great deal of pride in our work, and it’s important to us that everyone sees the fruits of their labour. We like to develop in short iterations, allowing us to quickly see our hard work live on our public platforms. We aren’t an agency with external clients imposing impossible time/budget deadlines, our code IS our business and so ensuring a consistently high level of quality is paramount. If a job is going to take twice as long as its estimate to complete in order to achieve the level of quality we desire, then so be it - although we’ll expect a detailed retro. Agile Pragmatism Everyone is equal and encouraged to work with each other as best suited to solve problems. If you’ve got an idea or a request then there’s no red tape. If you can demonstrate its worth then it's likely to happen - be it the use of a new technology, a piece of equipment or a change to our entire development approach. We try our best to apply Occam’s Razor to everything we do. Our product owners and stakeholders truly understand the value of iterative development and embrace the process of continual improvement. We continually strive to reduce waste by keeping paperwork and meetings to a minimum. Keep Your Tools Sharp We don’t scrimp on tech, you’ll get a beast of a machine with more RAM than you can shake a compiler at, SSDs as standard and at least as many monitors as you have eyes. We’ll buy you the licenses you need to be productive. We’ll send you to any interesting conferences you can find, as well as support you if you want to be a speaker. We regularly attend, sponsor and speak at our local meetups and believe in supporting and giving back to the community. Our team members have run free training workshops in the past and we’d love to continue supporting these. We have a fun, fast paced and social working environment. We use Slack for internal comms (i.e. GIFs), use Git properly, have a formidable Unreal Tournament team, a regularly stocked snack/soft drinks/beer fridge, games room with a Wii U, N64 and PS4 and bake cakes on Thursdays. We offer a competitive base salary, company bonus scheme, 33 days flexible holiday (including bank holidays), tram to work scheme, childcare vouchers, pension, life assurance, healthcare and even 4.30pm finishes on a Friday during summer We have a variety of sponsored clubs - run by the employees - which you can join at any time. Come join us, You'll love it as much as we do. This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/75185068
