Installation Engineer / Lead Engineer - Audio Visual
Practical AV is a busy, specialist Audio Visual installation company based near Burton On Trent. Operating since 2005, we work nationally and supply, install and service a broad spectrum of customers including schools, corporate, public sector, leisure and churches.
We are seeking both an apprentice level and an experienced/lead installer to join our expanding business. AV installation requires a broad range of skills - an (M&E) Mechanical & Electrical background will be helpful, as would direct or indirect experience of Audio, Visual, CCTV, Networking, cabling work. Traditional engineering skills relating to measuring, layout, cutting, mounting, fixing, cable management etc. are an asset.
You will need to be comfortable working at heights (access towers and powered access) and sometimes underfloor. Also safely using tools for cutting, drilling, fixing and cabling. Manual handling is an integral part of the job e.g. mounting projectors and screens to ceilings, mounting speakers to walls, routing cables in ceilings etc.
A rapid learning curve is expected on the AV side, and initially you will be expected to continuously expand your knowledge around our products and services - you can expect to work with the latest projectors, video walls, sound systems, interactive displays, HD distribution, and advanced smart-glass screens, as well as Networking and CCTV infrastructure projects.
We encourage our engineers to own projects on an end-to-end basis, beginning small scale, and working-up to full autonomy on high value complex jobs. A commission structure is in place to reward engineers who deliver these jobs on time and in full.
As our customers are located across the UK, the job requires frequent travel, early starts, long days and frequent overnight hotel stays, particularly during school holidays.
A good standard of written and spoken English is essential as this role involves a lot of direct contact with clients and contractors on site. You will need a full (UK valid) driving licence, undergo a CRB check, and secure an ECS or CSCS card. Further formal and informal training will be required as part of your role.
Closing date for initial applications is the 13th August 2017.
